April Travel in the Caribbean

A perfect tan on white sand beaches, exciting carnivals and a great shopping experience await visitors who choose to travel to the Caribbean during the warmer months. April is an ideal time to visit for its sunny days and crisp, cool nights. Depending on the Caribbean island, the weather in April is comfortable and not as hot as most people believe.

Throughout the Caribbean, the spring month of April is packed with events ranging from Easter festivities, carnivals, sporting events and much more. The Bacchanal Hollywood carnival in Jamaica is a party full of color, costumes and music. The festival begins in March but reaches its crescendo during Holy Week in April. The St. Thomas Carnival in the US Virgin Islands is equally festive. Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic hosts many dance performances and events throughout the city to celebrate a ‘month of dance’.

A culinary adventure is offered at Saborea Puerto Rico Culinary Extravaganza with a wide range of wines and fine dining. Art lovers can head to Puerto Rico for the ‘San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial: Latin America and the Caribbean,’ an event that celebrates contemporary art through various exhibitions and events. The kite flying festival during Easter week in Nevis and the Turks and Caicos Islands is ideal for families to participate in various games. A major racing event on Aruba’s April calendar is the Royal Nationals Drag Race.

Beginning in mid-April is considered the low season during which the luxury hotels have great deals and the beaches are not very crowded. It is advisable to wear cotton clothing during the day, while light winter clothing, such as a sweater, will suffice for cooler nights. Formal wear is just as essential as the bathing suits and sunscreen that visitors should pack to make the most of April in the Caribbean.
