Giants, their history in the World Series

The Giants have their championship titles to be proud of. They won the World Series five times. They also have 20 National League titles. Finally, they have won the NL West six times.

They were one of the major league baseball teams made up of John B. Day and Jim Mutrie. The team goes by the name Gothams at first. It’s a National League team. Day and Mutrie had another baseball team target in a different league. They also owned the Metropolitans, which is an American Association team.

The two began bringing their star players from the Metropolitans to Gotham. This strategy led the Gothams to win their first National League title in 1888. They did it again in 1889, only this time they also managed to win the first version of the World Series.

It is rumored that the team’s name was changed to the Giants after Mutrie exclaimed the word excited as a compliment to his team that had beaten the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants played at the Polo Grounds until 1957 when they moved to California and became the San Francisco Giants.

The Player’s League took its toll on the Giants. Most of its players joined the league. After that, Day had to sell controlling shares of the team to Edward Talcott. Talcott later sold the team to Andrew Freedman. Freedman did not have many fans. He had some misunderstandings with other owners and players. His best decision was to bring in John McGraw. After a while, Freedman needed to sell the team to John T. Bush.

McGraw managed the team for thirty years. During his tenure, he led the team to ten National League pennants and three World Series titles. He also made headlines when he refused to play in the 1904 World Series against the Boston Red Sox. According to some, McGraw didn’t feel like competing because he didn’t think much of the American League. This led to the formalization of the World Series in 1905, this time; the Giants played and won their first World Series title.

After that, the team went through difficult times. It would be a while before they could win the World Series. The victory they longed for came in 1921 and 1922. They beat the Yankees both times. After that, the Yankees beat them in 1923, while the Washington Senators beat them in 1924.

In 1932, Bill Terry took over the leadership of the team. Terry led his team to three National League pennants. They also won the World Series in 1933. However, they failed to take it home in 1936 and 1937 after facing the New York Yankees.

Aside from the World Series, one notable victory for the Giants took place in 1951 when they defeated their main rival team, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bobby Thomson made the shot heard around the world and gave the Giants a win over the Dodgers.

Their next World Series title came in 1954. It was their last as the New York Giants and their attempts as the San Francisco Giants were unsuccessful.
