Glee covers songs from the 80s
The hit television series Glee is currently in its fourth season and is still getting the same popularity it was first shown. Glee showcases the talents of the characters singing songs from classics to recent hits. They are not only beautiful actors but also magnificent singers. Some of the well-known songs that the cast have performed with their own interpretations are “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Toxic” by Britney Spears and “Don’t Stop Believing” by The Journey. However, despite having a younger audience, their song choices have not been limited to just songs by today’s famous artists. They have also chosen songs of the year from the great ballads, the 80s. These are some of the songs that they sang during several episodes.
The cast of Glee left behind a notable version of “True Colors” that was originally done by Cyndi Lauper before Season 1 ended. Phil Collins also has his own rendition of this heartwarming song. It was a perfect song to end the season.
Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” was also on the Glee set list, performed by Finn Hudson. The song is about unrequited love with a fast-paced melody but it sends a sad message. It was originally released in 1981. Rick Springfield received an award for that song. It was a success.
Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” is another 80s song that was released in 1983 and was a huge hit at the time, becoming #6 for the entire year on the Billboard charts. The Glee members who gave a beautiful performance to this song are Finn, Puck, Jesse, and Rachel.
In another episode, Finn Hudson also performed his own version of “Don’t Dream It’s Over”. It was originally sung by Crowded House, which went on sale in 1986. Upon its release, it immediately reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Another 80’s song from the movie Flashdance titled “What a Feeling” originally sung by Cara was also performed by the character of Rachelle. To this day, that performance still has the same impact as when it first aired on the radio.
