Kinect – The New Xbox

Originally known as “Project Natal,” Kinect for Xbox 360 brings a whole new level of controller-free gaming and experiences to the Xbox 360 console. It allows users to interact with and control their Xbox 360 without touching a game controller. Simply by using gestures, spoken commands, or presented objects and images, Kinect is sure to draw consumers out of the gamers’ circle.

Along with Microsoft’s announcement that this product would go on sale on November 4, 2010, the release of Kinect heralded the launch of a new Xbox 360 console (either as a new retail configuration or with a major design overhaul) . This claim, however, has been rejected by Microsoft and it has repeatedly emphasized that Kinect will be fully compatible with all Xbox 360 consoles. On the other hand, at E3 2010 it was confirmed that Microsoft did, in fact, release a new Xbox variant, a move that Microsoft viewed as a major initiative on its part. In a speech to the Executive Club of Chicago, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer even referred to Kinect as a “new Xbox.”

Perfect for children and adults alike, Kinect will be a tool that contributes to a more intense, human-centered, imaginative and emotional bond. It will create a sense of connection between families and friends who want to enjoy their free time with an interactive Xbox game.

With at least 140 animals to play with across Kinectanimals, parents will find their children playing until they drop from exhaustion as they summon a pet or play with a tiger cub. A soccer game will raise your adrenaline as if you were against the clock in Kinect Sports. Kinect Joy Ride will allow people to play driving games by moving their hands as if turning a car steering wheel, and LucasArts will add a lightsaber in 2011 as a Kinect-compatible gaming peripheral.

This is truly an inspiring innovation from Microsoft. The future of gaming has gone beyond wireless controllers and accessories. With Xbox 360 Kinect comes the best controller ever: YOU.
