This is what a wildlife safari in Uganda has to offer

Uganda is located in East Africa and is most famous for gorilla tracking. More than half of the world’s remaining gorillas are found within Bwindi National Park. However, you will have to hike through the forest and over steep rocks accompanied by your tour guide in order to spot these endangered mountain gorillas. Kibale National Park is another attractive site where you will see the great chimpanzees, including other primates such as baboons, monkeys, colobus and bush calves. Watching chimpanzees walk slowly while caring for the young just like humans is very interesting.

Uganda has around 52 tribes and a very strong cultural heritage. These tribes have their own kingdoms like Buganda, Bunyoro, Ankole, Toro, Busoga and among others. Each tribe has its own culture, lifestyle, and also its own traditional dance styles. The people of Uganda are welcoming and have remarkable hospitality in recent years. Wildlife in Uganda has increased in recent years due to good protection of game parks and reserves against human destruction. There are several attraction sites including the Nile River, Rwenzori Mountains, Murchison Falls Park, wildlife viewing and bird watching.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is rich in animal viewing such as monkeys, buffaloes, warthogs, wild deer, lions, elephants, hyenas, and antelopes. This park borders Lake George and Lake Edward. This park has around 600 species of birds, making it the most attractive site for bird watchers in the country. Birds you’ll spot include eagles, hawks, and 11 different species of kingfishers. A safari to this park will be interesting for both animal watching and bird watching. Other attractive parks include Semuliki National Park and Mt. Elgon National Park, which is located on the border of Kenya and Uganda. This mountain is an extinct volcano with the largest area (50 km by 80 km) compared to any other extinct volcano in the world.

Murchison Falls National Park is the largest park in Uganda with the highest concentration of wildlife. This park has a mix of savanna grassland, swamp land, and riparian forest. Here you can see lions, elephants, hyenas, giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kob and leopards. As you drive up the river to the fall of the Nile River, you will have a good view of a large number of crocodiles, hippos and many water birds. You will also see many elephants and buffaloes drinking water along the river. The locals will entertain you with music and dance while the elders will tell you stories of their origin, beliefs and myths.
