History of the Range Rover Vogue

While the Land Rover brand has been around since 1948 in one form or another. While the first prototype was developed in 1967, it wasn’t until 1970 that the first Range Rover Vogue rolled off the production line. Since its inception, there have been a total of three Range Rover Vogue platforms, each generation more luxurious, powerful and innovative than its predecessors.

Vogue’s first platform lasted from 1970 to 1995 and is commonly known as the “Range Rover Classic”. It was quite utilitarian in nature and lacked most of the luxury features that we commonly associate with the brand today.

1981: The four-door version was launched, helping to make it more conventional than the two-door predecessor.

1986: Lucas electronic fuel injection is introduced, alleviating reliance on carburetors.

1986 – The first Rover Vogue Diesels are introduced

1992: Air suspension is available as an option on the High End Equipment Packages (LSE)

1992 – A new high-end trim package with more amenities, called the Range Rover LSE, is launched in the UK.

1992 – Vogue 200Tdi turbocharged diesel engine launched

1994 – Vogue 300Tdi turbocharged diesel engine launched

In 2007, things got really interesting with the introduction of Land Rover Special Vehicles’ first factory-built armored Range Rover Vogue. This new era Range Rover weighed in at 3.5 tonnes (standard Range Rovers weigh 2 tonnes) and offers everything you’d expect including flat tyres, internal oxygen tanks, reinforced fuel tanks, bulletproof glass and more. This line of Rovers has been specially designed to withstand hits from AK-47s, grenades, flamethrowers and most other small arms.

In 2010, there were minor updates to the external appearance, instead Land Rover opted for a significant update to the internal technology. This update has been led by a fully configurable 12″ TFT display that features a series of graphic gauges and ‘virtual’ dials to display everything from speed to outside weather conditions. Another unique option is a surround camera system. displayed on the TFT screen showing the sides and rear of the car to change lanes or back up Also, 2010 enhanced some of the best-in-class features offered on premium luxury vehicles, like adaptive cruise control , blind spot monitoring and automatic high beam assist.

To date the Range Rover Vogue sits at the pinnacle of luxury SUVs, its closest regular production competitors the Mercedes G-Wagen (G55 AMG), Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and Lexus LX 570 are all excellent cars, but they lack the history and class that is the Land Rover brand. In fact, the brand is so adored that the Saudi royal family and the British royal family drive armored versions on a daily basis.
