Palak Paneer – Indian Cheese and Spinach Recipe

If you enjoy Palak (spinach) and Paneer (Indian cheese), I am sure you will love this delicious Indian creamy sauce made with these two delicious ingredients. It is a very popular delicacy in India and I want to share my favorite recipe to make Palak Paneer.

Ingredients

250 grams bread

2 bunches of palak

3 medium onions (finely chopped)

2 medium tomatoes (finely chopped) OR tomato puree as per convenience

2 green chilies (cut in half)

1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1/2 ginger paste

1/2 garlic paste

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon garam masala

1/2 teaspoon chana masala

1 teaspoon of sugar

3 oil tablespoons

Salt to taste

method

1. Cook the palak (spinach) for about 5 minutes in boiling water and mash it into a fine paste after it is cold.

2. Cut the paneer into small cubes and fry in plenty of oil until lightly golden.

3. Heat the oil in a wok or nonstick skillet and add the cumin seeds. Wait until it crackles and make sure it doesn’t burn. Add the chopped onions and green chiles and sauté until the onions are golden. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute. Add the turmeric powder, chili powder and chana masala powder and sauté for another 1-2 minutes. Then add the tomatoes/tomato puree and stir until the oil separates.

4. Add the palak paste to this mixture along with 1 cup of water. (Tip: you can use the water used to cook the spinach)

5. Add the paneer, garam masala, sugar and salt and cook until you start to see the sauce bubble. If gravity seems a bit dry, you can add a little more water.

6. Decorate with a little cream at the end.
