Vikings are setting up their fans to be disappointed

The Minnesota Vikings won their fifth straight game by beating the hapless Detroit Lions on the road last Sunday. The Vikings’ defense had a good game and their offense seemed to be working well together. Brad Johnson had a productive afternoon and seemed comfortable at the helm.

He was very pleased with wide receiver Koren Robinson, who looked great. Robinson scored an eighty-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game.

I still have concerns about the Vikings’ performance. So what is my problem?

It worries me that the media is full of hype in its praise of the Vikings and its newfound admiration for Mike Tice.

The Vikings have beaten below average teams during their winning streak. They had wins against New York (Giants), Detroit (twice), Green Bay and Cleveland, who have a combined record of twenty wins and thirty losses.

It worries me that we all give the Vikings too much credit. I think we can be preparing this team and their fans for the fall.

Let’s say the Vikings make the playoffs and we have to face a good team. I think they will be unprepared and have inflated expectations preparing to be blown away by their competition.

I know a win is a win, but the Vikings don’t play competitive teams and for a couple of wins on their winning streak they looked horrible.

The Detroit Lions are a team in crisis. Coach Dave Mariucci was fired before Sunday’s game. They’ve also had consistency issues with their quarterbacks all year.

This is a game that would have made the Vikings look inept if they had lost.

I think Vikings owner Zygi Wilf will now allow Mike Tice to keep his position as head coach.

I think it would be a mistake to keep Tice as head coach. I think there will be some good coaches available in 2006 and the Vikings should take advantage of the talent pool they will have at their disposal.

I need to address one more issue before logging out. Now that the Vikings are on a winning streak, the media has put pencils behind its ears and forgotten about Cruisegate.

I’m still grossed out by that horrible thing and I want the players who participated to be disciplined.

I don’t think Vikings fans should receive justice for the alleged acts created by some Vikings players.

It makes me sick that the media only reports on those horrible acts when a team is losing, but forgets about those acts when a team is winning games.

Horrible acts must be dealt with in good and bad times. Viking fans should demand that they get answers about what happened during Cruisegate.
